Buy the Rangers Apprentice Book Series.
The Rangers Apprentice series is one of the best series of books I have read. This is definitely a series with great character development which lets you see how the characters grow and develop. These books to all young boy takes responsibility as he grows older and is realistic about the changes that happen in life. This is a series of books is definitely realistic and shows that life can be challenging and even unfair but that our reactions and how we handle ourselves matters. These are all great lessons I think every child should learn and John Flanaganto accomplish this with style.
Will of the Ranger's Apprentice series.
Will Is the main character throughout the Ranger's Apprentice series of books. What I like about Will and think that children can learn from Will is honesty, dedication, hard work, and a willingness to accept the world around them.
Throughout the series of books we see Will go from being the smallest kid with unrealistic dreams to finding himself and becoming a leader. And some of the hardships that Will faces in this series are acceptance, self-discovery, responsibility and even slavery. Not that I'm against any book with magic or other laws that govern its planet, one of the things I appreciate about the Ranger's Apprentice series is overall it's about every day, ordinary people struggling through life and making the best of it.

Will's mentor: Halt O'Carrick
In the beginning of the series, Halt is a mysterious Ranger of great renown. The Rangers and the Ranger's Apprentice series are pretty much special operatives for the King. After Will proves his ethics and morals to Halt by subtle testing, Halt decides to take Will as an apprentice and teach Will the vocation of Ranger. Halt happens to be a war hero of the kingdom and one of the most respected Rangers that the kingdom has.
Will's childhood enemy: Horace Altman
Horace is one of those people that knows what they're supposed to be in life and is completely happy with that. Horace joins the Duke's soldiers and excels. Look one develops a relationship between Will and Horace to very unlikely comrades. Showing just how life's twists and turns may lead you to some place you did not expect.
Ranger's Apprentice Books
Will's supporter: Alyss Mainwaring
Alyss is one of Will's friends from childhood throughout the whole series. She is described as being tall, elegant, and intelligent. This is a relationship that transitions from childhood friend, through courtship, and possibly to marriage.
Alyss supports Will in many of his decisions and gives him confidence. Giving him support publicly and privately probably helped develop will into the young man he ends up being. Alyss knew more about her family than Will did about his family even though she was also an orphan. A commonality that tied them together as children.
Captor to Rescuer: Erak Starfollower
When Erak is first introduced, is a leader of mercenaries and raiders which end up capturing Will and one of his comrades. Will's bravery and Ranger ability impress Erak to a large degree. Erak and Will change from enemy to ally as needs require and both men's honor is proven.
