Stop birds from pooping on your car
81Bird poop and vehicles...
Anyone with a vehicle has had a problem with birds trying to turn it white to differing degrees. With shopping malls and strip malls this can be a constant issue for some of us. What is out there to help our vehicles stay out of harm's way? Some people may think that their vehicle is cursed and that nothing on Earth could help their car. I am here to give some assistance and hopefully help those of you who are having some bird issues.
Flight Prep - Dropping Load...
One very easy method to increase your overall chances of avoiding bird poop is to park away from structures such as light posts and a little distance away from the building(s). Birds will often poop just before taking off or while taking off. If a bird is on a lamp pole, telephone wire, or roosting on a building, the chances of it pooping on the below targets is quite likely. This is one of those issues that makes me ponder the term, "lightening the load," in regards to birds.
With regards to the fight or flight responded birds definitely have a flight response. So at times, other drivers, people walking, or sudden movement sometimes really do scare the poop out of a bird. Another perspective to look at is that most animals are somewhat efficient. The more something weights the more effort, or energy, it takes to move it. Hence, when a bird is taking flight or preparing to, it poops to drop some weight and be more energy efficient.
Saturated Bombings - Literally...
Many birds poop while flying. Knowing this how can a person make the birds avoid flying over their car? There are many different ways to have the bird avoid the flight strip that includes your vehicle in it. One thing to try would be to take a few old compact discs. Four of them are fine, and make a tetrahedron from them. Make sure to put the reflective side facing out, so that the sun's rays are reflected by these surfaces. Take some cloth and hot clue it around a magnet and then clue the magnet to whichever side you wish to be the bottom. When you get out of your car place this on top of your car. I state to put the cloth around the magnet to avoid scratching the paint on your car. The magnet needs to be strong enough to hold through this, but keep in mind you will want to avoid dragging it across your vehicle or in any way causing damage to the paint. A stereo speaker magnet works well. If you want to get complex, a person can make a small shaft so the tetrahedron can rotate and spin.
This keeps the birds away from the area because of the shifting of the light. If you have a pool and are having a problem with birds pooping on your deck or in the pool - these little contraptions work for some people around the pool. Anything set out like this around a pool, move around every couple of days so the birds do not get use to them.
Luggage rotation - Food In, Poop Out
Don't park by the dumpsters. Some birds are scavengers and hit parking lots frequently for food. Don't park by the dumpster. This will not only save your olfactory glands from having to smell such foul things during the summer - but it will save your vehicle from the constant flight of birds. And if a bird is loading food in, then poop is coming out. This is a simple avoidance issue, the birds will be much more persistent in flying to a dumpster and much harder to scare off. Also, the concentration of poop may be much greater.
Ground to Air vehicle
Ground to air vehicles/modifications
There is a chance that none of this will work for you. Not much of a chance, but if this continues to be an issue and you are willing to either modify your vehicle or buy a new vehicle - there are some options.
Birds have been mastering these attacks for ages now, sometimes the response needs to be quite drastic to set an example to all avian-kind. Hopefully, these avian learn to quit targeting our vehicles.
One day it may end.
Until the day that this war between the avian and our vehicles ends - I hope that this article has helped. If you have any other comments and/or additions, please feel free to leave a comment and let the rest of us know your thoughts, ideas, etc. I hope the birds avoid your vehicle and may the skies remain clear above it. Good luck.

Hi CJ, Great hub, I have shown it to my husband, as he makes such a big fuss when he finds poop on the car! The video is hiarious, he is at this moment trying to make this device!!! many thanks
First off I have to say that Video is Hilarious and so to the point. I laughed through most of this Hub...However, we have a Beautiful tree near the drive way and when those birds have to Poop, guess who's car they do it on. Anyone for a Sling Shot! Good Hub CJ.
Now if you can tell me what to do about the bugs, I'll be happy.:) up/useful
Great hub! Since I don't have covered parking, finding a way to keep birds (of which there are many in my area) from "lightening their load" right over my car is a real concern. Your suggestion about the old discs seems a good one. Thanks. Jaye
I bought my son a remote control helocopter and he now flies his helo into the area they were roosting...WOW! NO MORE BIRD PROBLEM! Plus i'm now having fun flying his helo, so much that I got a much larger version. Started a fun hobby. Like the old saying, can't beat em', join em'...FLYING, that is!
