Quality Backlink to Build Traffic

I have written a couple articles on linking. Mainly, building traffic to articles and websites through backlinking and cross linking. Both are very important techniques to use to build traffic to your material and to prevent the traffic you are driving to your material from leaving. Bounce rate is the enemy of online writing and I am here to help as many people as I can. Backlinks do come in a couple varieties and we are going to break this down and explain it in some detail.

Backlinking is essential to search engines. These links tell the search engines how many people are looking at your article, site, or that specific URL the link points to. Why is this important? Because the search engines correlate how many people must think that URL is important enough to link to. People caught onto this and started spamming links to their sites where ever they could. The result of this was the dreaded "nofollow" tag for links and a change in algorithm with the search engines.

The "nofollow" tag is actually only listened to by the big three search engines, from what I have read - Google, yahoo, and msn/bing. A lot of the smaller search engines do not recognize the "nofollow" tag. But people should realize that all backlinks are important even if the big three do not follow them. So the "nofollow" tag which resulted from all this spam did do some good because almost all people try to satisfy these three titans of search engines. The algorithm change is a little trickier.

The algorithm change put a value or importance on what site was backlinking to your URL. No matter what there is some value associated with this, unless you are obvious and there is no hiding that these backlinks are just spam. But the more trusted the site the more importance is placed on the links that it uses. And the more important sites that consider your site and/or article important means that article/site is very important. Remember this portion because it will be a very key aspect of what I mention later.

What makes a site more trusted than another? Well, no one knows exactly. But if you look at all the evidence and the business models that are in existence - there are many factors. Some of the more importance factors would be unique traffic, comments, links (of every sort), etc. Pretty much the more traffic that a site receives, especially traffic that is unique, means that more people are using that site. And if more people are using a site - it means that the site has money potential. And money potential is what theUnited Statesis all about. So if your site can make money because of all the unique traffic it is getting, it is more trusted. What would you do if you had a chance to help created a site that is willing to allow you to backlink to your articles, websites, blogs, etc.? The only thing asked in return is that you not be completely selfish and that you make comments and take the time to read other people information from time to time. Here is the theory - and it won't be something that takes place tomorrow but rather something you are asked to help create with your participation.

I have discovered a site that allows "dofollow" links and I am taking full advantage of this. I discovered Gather.com from a hub, on Hubpages, and the site looked interesting. If I join a site I generally look at if they are "nofollow" or what is termed "dofollow". For those of you who don't know, a "dofollow" is simply a link that does not have the "nofollow" tag - there is no text in the code for "dofollow". But the lack of the "nofollow" tells the search systems that the link is okay to follow and catalog where the link goes.

Gather.com is a "dofollow" link site, which is good for people looking to build traffic to their articles, sites, blogs, hubs, etc. by backlinking. Another important aspect is that Gather.com allows for its members to create their own groups for people with like interests to communicate easier -AND- these groups are listed as sub domains. The sub domain portion allows for people to make errors without damaging the overall domain's trust level, or other sub domains. This is something that blogger.com does, hm doesn't Google run that ... ?

The thought for this article is this: by creating a group and allowing online authors to post their articles, blogs, websites, etc. with a summary of the article it would allow for a good backlink to assist in driving traffic to the specified URL. And as long as people were reading what is posted the sub domain would become more and more trusted. Which is where participation would come in and promoting the group to a variety of people who want to create backlinks, read interesting material, and want to be able to look over a vast assortment of material. The group is "Online Authors Reading Group". Use it as a backlink only, or help build it to an even more trusted site.
